Adoniram (1788-1850) and Ann Judson (1789-1826) 

Adoniram Judson: American Baptist missionary, Bible translator

Ann Judson: Missionary wife, language learner, writer, and faithful partner in ministry

They arrived in Burma in 1813, a land closed and hostile to Christianity.

American missionaries to Burma (Myanmar) for 40 years; Ann became the first American woman missionary.

Testimony:- Adoniram and Ann Judson sacrificed youth, health, family, and comfort to plant the gospel in Burma, proving that faithful obedience can transform a nation.


What did they do for God in ministry?

Adoniram Judson

•Spent 37 years in Burma

•Translated the entire Bible into Burmese

•Produced a Burmese grammar and dictionary

•Planted churches and trained Burmese believers


Ann Judson

•Learned Burmese and Siamese (Thai)

•Taught women and children

•Wrote letters and reports that inspired mission support in America

•Helped translate gospel materials

Together, they laid the foundation of Christianity in Myanmar.


What methods did they use to reach people?

1.Language mastery

•Learned Burmese deeply

•Shared the gospel in the heart language of the people

•Took 6 years before the first convert

•Focused on deep understanding, not mass conversion

How did they suffer and sacrifice?

Adoniram Judson’s sacrifices

•Imprisoned for 17 months during the Anglo-Burmese War

•Endured torture, starvation, and chains

•Lost two wives (Ann and later Sarah)

•Lost several children

•Lived with deep depression and physical weakness


Ann Judson’s sacrifices

•Lived in extreme poverty and illness

•Walked miles daily to bring food to Adoniram in prison

•Bribed officials and pleaded for his life

•Nursed him back from near death

•Lost her children

•Died at 36 years old from illness and exhaustion


How did they die?

•Ann Judson died in 1826, age 36, in Burma (fever and illness)

•Adoniram Judson died in 1850, age 61, at sea while returning from ministry, and was buried at sea
