I AND THE FATHER ARE ONE

My sheep will hear my voice

1.The Importance of Relationship between Shepherd and Sheep

John 10:11-18)
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

Spiritual Lessons

-Trust and Dependence: Sheep cannot survive without a shepherd; likewise, believers cannot thrive without God’s guidance.

-Intimacy and Recognition: Sheep recognize the shepherd’s voice (John 10:4). This teaches discernment—learning to hear and follow God amidst competing voices.

- Sacrificial Love: Unlike hired hands, the true shepherd risks everything for the flock. This points to Christ’s crucifixion as the ultimate act of care.

-Restoration: When sheep wander, the shepherd seeks them out (Luke 15:4–7). This reflects God’s relentless pursuit of the lost.

Practical Application

-Daily Guidance: Just as sheep follow step by step, believers are called to seek God’s will in daily routines.

-Community Care: Pastors and spiritual leaders are “under-shepherds,” tasked with protecting and nurturing the flock (1 Peter 5:2–3).

-Readiness & Surrender: Sheep must yield to the shepherd’s direction; this models surrendering our own plans to God’s leading.

-Hope & Restoration: The shepherd’s presence reassures the sheep even in dark valleys (Psalm 23:4), reminding us of God’s comfort in trials.

Note:-

1.Security in uncertainty: God’s protection in life’s dangers.

2.Direction in confusion: His voice guiding us through choices.

3.Healing in brokenness: His care restoring us when wounded.

4.Identity in community: We are not isolated individuals but part of His flock.

2. Protection of the sheep life (false people ,Enemies to steal and kill , destroy sheep life)

NOTE:- This is why the Father loves me: because I freely lay down my life.

(John 10:1-10)
1 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Note:- Strangers voice - Wrongly and Wordly lifestyle

The Enemy’s Strategy

Jesus warns in John 10:10:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”

- Steal → Rob believers of joy, peace, and faith.

- Kill → Attack spiritual vitality, leading to despair or apostasy.

- Destroy → Break down identity, relationships, and hope in God.

Enemies may appear as:

- False teachers twisting Scripture.

- Temptations that lure believers away.

- Persecution or hostility meant to weaken faith.

Practical Application

Here’s how this plays out in daily life:

1.Guard your mind → Be cautious of teachings or influences that contradict Scripture.

2.Stay close to the Shepherd → Daily prayer and meditation on God’s Word keep you under His care.

3.Resist isolation → Sheep are safest in the flock; fellowship protects against deception.

4.Live alert → Recognize that spiritual enemies often disguise themselves as “friends” or “light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).

3.Kingdom of God (ETERNAL LIFE)

The Shepherd Knows His Sheep (John 10:25-30)
5 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.”

I and the Father are one” is not just agreement but shared essence. It’s a claim to divinity, sparking the leaders’ outrage.

Eternal life is a present possession, not just future hope. “No one can snatch” emphasizes absolute security in Christ’s care.

Note:-
-Assurance of Salvation: Eternal life is secure because it rests on God’s power, not human strength.
-Christ’s Divinity: Jesus equates His authority with the Father’s, affirming His divine nature.

Door :- Jesus Christ is the Door through his death (WAY, SALVATION,JUDGEMENT)

(Note:- He chosen death beacuse of us and GIVEN LIFE TO US)
