PARABLE
A brief, clear interpretation of Matthew 22:1–14 (The Parable of the Wedding Banquet)
Context:-Jesus spoke this parable to the chief priests and Pharisees (Matt. 21:45). It addresses Israel’s rejection of the Messiah and God’s gracious offer of salvation to others.
Brief Interpretation :-
1. The King
Represents God the Father.
He prepares a wedding feast for His Son, Jesus Christ.
The banquet pictures salvation and kingdom blessings, not church rituals.
2. The Son (Bridegroom)
Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah.
The wedding signifies God’s redemptive plan centered in Christ.
3. The Invited Guests (First Invitation)
Nation of Israel, especially the religious leaders.
God invited them through prophets, and finally through Christ and the apostles.
4. The Rejected Invitation & Judgment
The destruction of the city (v.7) points to God’s judgment on Israel, historically fulfilled in AD 70 (destruction of Jerusalem).
Rejection of grace leads to judgment.
5. The Open Invitation
Salvation is now offered freely to all, without distinction.
6. The Wedding Garment
The garment represents the righteousness of Christ, not human works.
The man without the garment symbolizes false professors—religious outwardly but unsaved inwardly.
Good works, church membership, or morality cannot replace salvation by grace.
7. Cast into Outer Darkness
Refers to eternal judgment (hell) for those who reject God’s provision of salvation.
8. “Many Are Called, but Few Are Chosen” (v.14)
The call = the gospel invitation goes to many.
The chosen = those who respond by faith alone in Christ alone.
Election never cancels human responsibility to believe.
