TITHE
Tithe Biblical Explanation
Biblical Definition of Tithe
- The word tithe comes from the Old English teogotha, meaning “tenth.”
- Biblically, it refers to giving 10% of one’s income or resources to God, usually through the temple (Old Testament) or church (New Testament)
Note:- Worship
Note:- See if somebody is giving means , God is not coming from heaven and taking your money
God has created a system on earth for his Church and kingdom works , So we need to obey God's word
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
Note:- GIVING SHOWS THAT HOW MUCH WE LOVE GOD
AND IT SHOWS THAT HOW MUCH WE ARE OFFERING TO GOD AND WHICH IS EVEN VERY NEED AND IMPORTANT TO US
GIVING - Worshiping , Honoring , functions of body of christ
1.Set aside first: Treat giving as the first act when you receive income, not the last.
2.Pray over your tithe: Make it a moment of worship, thanking God for provision.
3.Connect it to mission: See your giving as fueling the church’s witness, not just meeting budgets.
4.Practice generosity beyond tithe: Offer time, talents, and compassion—living as a holistic giver.
Malachi 3:8-10
8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. 10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
Note:- Beacuse of human Stubborn heart , God is teaching lessons

- Surrender: It’s a practical way of laying down self-reliance and trusting God’s provision.
- Restoration: Malachi 3:10 promises blessing and restoration when God’s people honor Him with tithes

Old Testament Foundations
- Abraham gave a tenth of his spoils to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:20).
- Jacob vowed to give a tenth to God (Genesis 28:22).
- The Law of Moses required Israel to give a tenth of crops, herds, and produce to support the Levites (Leviticus 27:30–32; Numbers 18:21).
- Malachi 3:10 emphasizes God’s promise: “Bring the whole tithe… and see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you.” .
New Testament Perspective
- Jesus acknowledged tithing but stressed justice, mercy, and faithfulness as greater priorities (Matthew 23:23).
- The New Testament shifts focus from strict percentages to generosity and cheerful giving (2 Corinthians 9:7).
- Early Christians often gave sacrificially, beyond the tithe, to meet the needs of the community (Acts 2:44–45).
