SURRENDERING FULLY

The unnamed woman anoints Jesus’ head with costly perfume.

Jesus interprets it as preparation for His burial, linking her act to His coming sacrifice.
He declares her deed will be remembered wherever the gospel is preached—showing its eternal significance.

COST

1.Conviction

- Repentance and Forgiveness (Luke 7)
- The “sinful woman” weeps, washes Jesus’ feet with her tears, and wipes them with her hair.
- Her perfume offering shows brokenness and surrender, acknowledging Jesus as the one who forgives sins.
- Jesus contrasts her devotion with the Pharisee’s coldness, teaching that those forgiven much, love much.
- Gratitude and Worship (John 12)
- Mary of Bethany pours expensive nard on Jesus’ feet, wiping them with her hair.
- This act flows from gratitude for Lazarus’ resurrection and recognition of Jesus as “the Resurrection and the Life.”
- The fragrance filling the house symbolizes how true worship permeates everything.

2.Covered by his Love

- Extravagant Love: The perfume was extremely costly, yet poured out without hesitation. This shows conviction that Jesus is worth everything.
- Humility: Wiping His feet with hair was culturally shocking, symbolizing total surrender and self-denial.
- Faith in His Identity: Each woman recognized Jesus not just as teacher, but as Messiah, Savior, and Lord.
- Defiance of Criticism: Disciples and Pharisees called it wasteful, but conviction led them to honor Jesus above social opinion.

3.Compassion in life

1.Compassion is costly: It often requires giving up comfort, time, or resources.

2.Compassion restores: Like Jesus lifting her shame, our compassion should heal wounds, not deepen them.

3.Compassion is remembered: Jesus said her act would be told wherever the gospel is preached—true compassion leaves a legacy.
