Biblical Faith, Modern Culture, and the Family A Christian reflection on gender, marriage, culture, and the family There are some conversations that are difficult to have today without people immediately taking sides. The relationship between men and women is one of them. Over the last hundred years, the way society thinks about women, marriage, work, education, authority, and family has changed dramatically. Some of those changes corrected genuine injustices. Women gained access to education, employment, property, voting rights, legal protection, and opportunities that previous generations often denied them. Those changes matter. At the same time, some of the ideas that have grown alongside these changes have also affected the way we understand marriage, masculinity, femininity, family, and even commitment itself.
